Location recce



this is a location recce where we provide an explanation of where our filming will take place these our three main filming locations along with this we have provided possible problems that we may face doing this allow us to have awareness of any problems that we could come across when using these location so we can be prepared for these at all times if we where to face these problems. this also provides us with the risk that we could face during our filming in these location although very unlikely there still could be a chance but identifying them gives us awareness and allows us to provide solutions to prevent these from happening.

Treatment we changed our mind

Our final song is called Dream by Alice Smith, we found the song on music alley;a copyright free site, meaning we could choose any song we wanted without it being taken off or switched with another song, once put on YouTube. After listening to the song as a group, we decided that it was our favourite and already had ideas about what kind of genre and type of music video we could create. 

Our overall idea is based on a 1950's performance music video, although the song is an R&B, this style will be going against the codes and conventions of how the music video for that type of song would normally be like.  As a group, we all had the same idea of how to present the narrative and lyrics to connect to the visuals. One music video that in my opinion reflects the codes and conventions of a traditional music video is Beyonce's 'Why Don't You Love Me', the costume, props and the techniques of how it is filmed reflects the 50's era. 



 
Our original inspiration of our music video, came from the movie 'Grease'.  Their use of costume and props looked really well done, and even if they did had a bigger budget, we can still mimic some of their scenes, for example 'Beauty School Drop Out' is our main influence.  I think our video will be successful because our idea fits really well and links with our song and the live performance part of the video. The thing that will make our video stand out is the fact that most current videos, utilise cars, money, women and over the top 'houses' (mansions). 

The music video, will be half Performance and half Narrative. Our main character will wake up in her home and will conclude the video in a hall, performing the rest of the song. We will also have the POV of the lover in her life, who will mimic the same things she does as her lover. During the performance, we will use some backing dancers but keep the main protagonist in focus by having a bright spotlight on her. As shown on our mood board, the costume, props will make it clear to our target audience, what we are trying to aim for in our music video to make it realistic and authentic.

This is an animatic created from our story bored showing each scene step buy step for our music video. this is a recreation of what our video should look like. the frames our edited to the beat creating a realistic time we will have for each shot an idea for when we have to film. From this we are able to see a realistic image of what our final piece will look like.

Story board



This is a story board for our music video this is shot to shot of our video this will making filming much easier as this gives us a guide for use to use this is an essential part of making videos as with out this there would be a risk of missing our frames and footage which could cause problems when editing. we will later make this into animatic to give us a realistic image of what our music video would look like.

Mood board


For my mood  board i decided to do it buy hand , I found all my pictures from the internet along with screen shots from you-tube, this mood board shows our inspiration and ideas of the kind of music video we would like to create. although our chosen song is randb we our going against the conventions of an randb video and creating a video that would not typically be expected from this type on genre although it will still go well with our song, we started of with just the idea of and old fashion video as some one mentioned some thing like grease this is where i looked at images from the video from the part in the film , beauty school drop out this is the kind of image  we would like to create  in our video we have the lead singer with backing dancers although we would like ours to be filmed on stage as a performance we know that the film grease is to be set in the 1950s so we really wanted to go with this time frame so i research images of  1950 including  style of clothing the type of hair costume and make up these are shown also in my mood bored we know now the props costume we will need to create our 1950 style music video. And this has helped us to get a clear idea og what we want in out video as the planning progresses some of these ideas may change things may create limits on what we our able to do but this is the starting point for our video and I hope we can work with these images and ideas and create some thing as affect and realistic to the 1950s .

Lyric analysis



this was a lyric analysis carried our by Chloe from our group , doing this allows us to understand the song in more detail get what the song is really saying and identify what the song is about, this will help us to define the theme of our music video more we have already thought of the ideas for our 1950s theme but know we are able to go into more detail so we can now see that its a love song but when first listening we thought it was a sad song with out this music analysis we would have got the hole concept of the video wrong.

Treatment

Our final song is called dream by Alice smith , we got this song from music alley its all copyright free meaning that we where able to chose any song from this website. we chose this song as a group after listening to all the choices as it was our favourite and after just listening to it for the first few times we  already had ideas about the kind of video that we could create.

our overall idea is to create a 1950s performance music video although the song is an R&B this style  will be going against the codes and conventions of that genre style music video would typically look like,  but our ideas still goes well with the music and the song , we decided on this idea as a group we all had a similar idea about the idea of being back in time I think this is because the image that the song creates. when listening to it alone it creates this past image the song makes me think of a similar style two singing  in the rain.
 
but as a group we decided on the 1950s theme and our inspiration and ideas came from the film grease we all agreed and liked the idea making it easy to come to a final decision. I think our video will be successful because our idea fits really well and links with our song and the live performance part of the video as it will be a good part I think the thing the thing that will really make our video stand out as all current video are very modern fast cars money big houses but ours will be different where taking it back with props costume stage sett up lighting to be as similar to that time as possible.

the video will be completely performance will have our main character performing the song on stage with a number of back up dancers they will be the hole focus the main character will be light up buy a spot light following her around stage. the costume for this will be 1950s dresses we have an idea of what they look like from the research images our shown on our mood board this also shows the props that we would like to use  theses will be best to use to make our theme realistic and make it clear to our audience what we are trying to create our props and costume should clearly show to them our 1950s theme  .

As part of todays lesson we where to carry our audience research helping us to find out a little bit more about who our target audience idea about our song and video and opinions on our music video ideas .we planned our questions out first then took the camera out to get some answers, we weren't planning on asking anyone in particular asking people as we saw them giving us a wider range of ideas and opinions rather than asking friends as they may have similar taste get the best feed back we needed to make sure it was a random response.

Audience research results

This is the outcome of our audience research questionnaire, thee aim of this was to gain some information that we would then be able to apply to our music video give us an idea of our target audience and what they are looking for in a music video we then can ever conform to these or we can go against them giving our audience a completely new video.


this shows that the majority of people access and view there music and videos is through YouTube this was some thing I predicted as it is the same as me its easy to get and you can access a large number of videos here so when it comes to displaying our music video it should be on YouTube this will mean more people are likely to see and view it as it is not out of there way, the majority of people taking our survey where aged between 16-20 this is around my age group meaning we have some relation to them they will have similar ideas to that of this ages and similar interest we can relate to what they want and use this within our video.  
 Our 50s theme appeals to our audience, so they will be interested  in the video we create and we are appealing to the correct audience I look forward to the production of our video as this research has given us the information that we needed to ensure that we make a successful video that appeals to our target audience.

RandB convention shopping list




This is a list of the typical codes and conventions of an RandB video helping us to identify the types location lighting props we will need for our r&b song but from looking at these and the recent R&b videos we don't want to follow these genre conventions but go against them create a video not typically expected from this type of song. From looking at these conventions its clear that many of the videos represent money and wealth with many locations being big houses they show the nice cars and many of the girls are dressed proactively in the videos this is not the style of video we would like to create and this is how we decided on our 1950 style music video.

Final song choice

we have chosen the song dream as our final choice this is one of the songs that I had chosen for me three choices,  this is the one as a group that we all liked I think its a good song once listening to it  just a few times as a group we already had a few ideas although its early in the planning process and these ideas may change and its currently just discussion its good that this song has produced ideas for us such early on. the song has many lyrics and this will also help guided us with the content of the video if we where to relate our video to what the lyrics are saying there would be a lot to guide us.. I really like the song its self and is similar style and genre to some of the songs that I listen to know but with it not being produced buy a big star like become and doesn't currently have a video this will avoid any copying of stars videos and using there ideas our video will simply come from our inspiration alone our ideas it will be our video, now we have decided on the song I am really exited to get started getting out ideas down and planning for our video we got so many ideas between us makes the planning process lot better and very exiting.

My three song choices

these our the three songs that I have chosen  that we could possible use for our music  video . I found these on a website called music alley that we where advised to use buy Mr Coppard because it is all  copy right three. I chose these songs simply on my style of music I really enjoyed the songs and would be something that I listen to regularly but this may not necessary benefit our video or be songs that our group would want to use, Also using song similar to a style that I am familiar with may create a copy cat video using ideas from song videos similar to this genre and just using there ideas, so for this reason alone I feel it would be better to use a song that is unknown. I know that each member of my group will have a different style to me this will allow us to look at each persons choice and decided from there so we can decide as a group, each member of the group also has three choices of songs we will share and listen to all of them together where will finalise them down to just one this will be the chosen song for our video.

Lip sync practice



lip sync will play a very important part in our music videos so our task was to practise this taking the cameras around the school in order to create a collage of lip syncing clips including our self so we can get a taste of what lip syncing would really be like. Its harder than it looks you have to make sure that you pronounce the words clearly so you are able to make out the words when  on camera when I came to put it together with some of the clips it was hard to see what some of them was saying so them clips could not be used. this helped us to understand what it takes to do this effectively and has been very beneficial as we plan to have a form of performance in our video that will involve lip syncing this has given us previous experience and we will be more prepared when it come to filming ours.

Todays lesson talk

As part of today's lesson one of our south Norwood teachers joined our lesson for a talk  giving us tips and advice about the making and creation of music videos on his experience from the making of his own video



he spoke largely from his own experience and the problems that he had faced he told us to ensure that we are able to take and re-film a large amount of the same shots from the same angle and different angles this is to give us more footage when it comes to editing  he explained to us why more is better from different angles creates the visual of a number of different cameras are being used  creating the affect of a high end video.



he spoke about the importance of planning making sure you got everything you want filmed down on paper making it easier when it comes to filming making sure you don't miss any of your ideas out getting everything you want filmed avoiding having to re-shooting and waiting time on other parts of the films that you could be shooting putting behind on the filming schedule.


we discussed the importance of setting where the video would be filmed and the importance of getting the write setting to fit the song and the narrative of the video , he spoke about the setting of his video and how he planned the beach to be empty but they left it till the last day which was the hottest day of the hole week and the beach was filled with people with no other day to film they had to settle with what they had , this ensures us that when it comes to filming we get the right setting and plan effectively so we get exactly what we want although the beach seen does look good and fits the video this may not always be the case and planning well will help us to avoid this problem.

Editing to the beat



For the next part of today's lesson we where set the task to edit to the beat we where give of my summer home work but struggled i know feel more combatable but not full 100 per cent n the video and the sound track and then it was explained to us how we where able to edit to the beat  previously i had to do this as part. Its been a long time since using final cut and at first I found it quite confusing but buy the end I was starting to get to grips with the editing although I do not feel 100 per cent I feel that this task has helped me  to have practice and a better understanding and this will only help me to get better , although I did not complete the task because of my confusion at the beginning this was my attempt at editing to the beat .


  • we started of by putting the sound track onto our time line on final cut once placed in the right place we where able to lock it onto the time line so this part was not affected buy any other editing that was done
  • above this we applied a slug this would act as a template for when we are choosing  our clips 
  • when the slug was placed you would begin to plat the song on ever beat you would press the (ctrl) button that allows the slug to be cut to the beat left with a template allowing you to fit the clips in these spaces.   

when fist explained it sounder really difficult but with the tools on final cut it is o simple to do an a get skill to learn when it comes to making our vey own music video my skills on final cut are not the greatest  but my confidence grows with each task we have to complete making my progression with my skill on the final cut programme .
